Meet the May Bride of the Month: Lisa

Hello everyone! This week is probably our busiest week of the year. With two weddings last weekend and two more this weekend Tricia and I have been going non-stop! We are both so fortunate to work in such a unique area. Last weekend we were out in the country at horse farms and this weekend we will be in the heart of DC. We are blessed to be able to have such various scenery for all of our events!

I know I've been slacking on the Bride of the Month features, but it's because I've been working on something realllllyyy cool I will share with you early next week.  Without further ado, please meet my lovely May Bride of the Month, Lisa!

How did he pop the question: We met working at Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection. When I left for a new job, I had a week off before starting. One day I went to meet him at Dumbarton Oaks for lunch, and since it was the first sunny day above freezing in weeks (this was late January), we decided to take a walk around the beautiful gardens. They weren't open to the public yet, so we had the place to ourselves. He was acting a bit strange, but it all made sense when he got down on one knee at a particularly nice spot overlooking the rest of the gardens! Afterward I was eager to head inside and surprise my former coworkers with the news, but when we got up to my department everyone was waiting for us with champagne. I was the only one surprised that day!

Tell us the story of how you two met: We met at work, though we didn't actually work together very much. I worked in the publishing office, and he worked for the museum. I remember seeing him around and thinking that he was better dressed than anyone else. We didn't really get to know each other until we went out with some mutual friends from work. They spent the evening arguing politics, so Jonathan were left to chat. Things didn't get serious until 6 months later, when we really clicked at an exhibition opening. He had to ask me out using our work email, because we never exchanged phone numbers!

What is the vision and design for your wedding: We are having a book-themed wedding. I work in publishing, and we are both voracious readers and collectors of books. We want an elegant event, but not too stuffy. It's black tie optional, so the hope is that the wedding will give the impression of being a really classy affair, but without making people feel as though they can't let loose or dance. There will definitely be some fun, whimsical elements as well, including a collection of paper sculptures made out of book pages that represent various genres of books as well as a few that just represent us.

What are you most looking forward to on your Big Day: It's hard to pick just one thing! I'm really looking forward to our first look. All the secrecy and build-up around the dress has been fun, but tricky! I'm excited to see what he thinks, and to have that moment together before the ceremony and the party.

Where are you planning to kick your feet up when the party is over: The very next day we're jetting off to Vietnam for 3 weeks! Neither of us has ever been anywhere in Asia, so we're excited to explore a new part of the world together.

How fantastic are those engagement pictures our friend Abby, of Abby Grace Photography took? We are so excited to work her again this weekend!  YAY!!

Till next time, happy planning! Cheers!!
