July Bride of the Month: Kathleen

Today starts the wedding festivities for a wedding I've been looking forward to for sooooo long now. Kathleen found AVE through some mutual friends of ours. As it turns out, she went to school with some of our dearest friends. Kathleen and her mother have been so much fun to work with. The wedding design is a perfect reflection of Kathleen's style. I can't wait to see it all come together!! The weather should be so pleasant this weekend too. What's a better weekend in to have a classic DC wedding than over July 4th weekend?

Say hellllllo to Kathleen and Dan!!

Wedding Date: July 5, 2014

Wedding Location: Dahlgren Chapel of the Sacred Heart (Georgetown University, DC) & Army Navy Country Club (Arlington, VA)

How did he pop the question: Dan planned a surprise trip for us on 4th of July weekend. He took me on a romantic getaway to the Homestead Resort and proposed the first night we were there (July 5, 2013). I had a feeling it might have been coming that weekend, but he completely caught me off guard with how he did it.  It was the sweetest moment and something I will cherish forever. Now, exactly a year later (coincidentally), I get to marry my best friend and love of my life – I couldn't be happier! We can't wait for July 5, 2014!

Tell us the story of how you two met: Dan and I met late Fall of 2010 at an Irish Bar in Arlington, VA. My first impression was that he was so handsome, a true gentleman and I loved that he was an Irish lad himself (O'Brien). Shortly after we first met, we started going on date after date...and the rest was history :)

There was something about Dan that was different than any other guy I had met...and the more we got to know each other, the more I knew it was a perfect match. I knew I loved him when I realized how I could completely be myself around him and that I couldn't picture life without him in it.

What is the vision and design for your wedding: Colors: blush/light pink, light green, ivory, gold. Themes: preppy, classic/timeless/traditional, romantic…and since our wedding falls over 4th of July weekend, we can’t ignore some red-white-blue/great American happenings throughout the weekend.

What are you most looking forward to on your Big Day: Walking down the aisle and seeing Dan for the first time J Plus of course, celebrating with all of our family and friends all weekend!

Where are you planning to kick your feet up when the party is over (honeymoon plans): Long story, but we are doing a “mini-moon” right after the wedding as we road trip back to St. Louis. Along the way, we are going to stop at The Homestead (where we got engaged). Once we get back to St. Louis, we are going to Lake of the Ozarks for the weekend (Dan vacationed here with his family growing up). We are doing a delayed honeymoon and will be going over the holidays in December.

UPDATE: They will be headed to Tahiti and Bora Bora!! Sooo jealous!!!

I am soooo excited to be working with Katelyn James Photography this weekend! Katelyn actually shot one of my good friend's weddings back in 2010. She took the pictures at the battlefield above. The ring picture is from their actual engagement!

Till next time, happy planning! Cheers!!
